Judith "Judy" Ann Franks, passed away following a brief illness on September 22, 2024, in Sioux City, Iowa at the age of 79. Judy, the daughter of Gerald "Jerry" and Betty Nelson was born on May 2, 1945, in Sioux City. Throughout her life, Judy exemplified compassion, warmth, and touched the hearts of everyone who knew her.
Judy grew up in Sioux City, where she completed her education at East High School before attending business school. Her professional journey began at Sioux Tool during her college years, where she met James "Jim" Franks, the love of her life. They were united in marriage on September 30, 1967, at Westminster Presbyterian Church and they were blessed with three daughters.
In her professional life, she worked at Younkers Department Store and worked alongside her husband in their jewelry business. However, it was her position as a library associate at the Sioux City Public Library that brought her the most fulfillment, allowing her to share her passion for reading.
Judy found joy in a variety of hobbies. She treasured her time spent gardening and enjoyed crafts including painting ceramics. Above all, she found the greatest joy in being a mom and a grandmother.
As we remember Judy, we keep close the legacy of love and kindness she leaves behind. She is survived by three daughters: Angela (Steve) Rennie of Kansas City, MO, Shelly (Quentin) Detches of Sioux City, IA, and Renae (Matt) Nesbit of Clemmons, NC. Judy’s love extended into the next generation, as she cherished spending time with her eight grandchildren—Cody (Haley) Holt, Dakota Holt, Alex (Jarod) Larson, Bailey Detches, Tyler Detches, Michael Nesbit, Ava Nesbit, and Zoey Nesbit—and seven great-grandchildren: Rowan Larson, River Larson, Callum Larson, Gabe Holt, Liam Holt, Lorenzo Holt, and Leonel Holt. In addition, she is survived by her siblings and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, James "Jim" Franks on January 7, 2016.
