Joyce L. Bennett, 93, passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the Sunrise Retirement Community in Sioux City, IA. Born on October 30, 1931, to Louis and Esther (Haller) Janson, Joyce spent her formative years in Sioux City, where she exemplified strong values and a deep commitment to family and faith.

Joyce graduated midterm from East High School in 1950. On April 30 of the same year, she married the love of her life, Gilford "Gil" Bennett, and together they built a life centered around their family. Joyce worked alongside her husband in his real estate appraisal business and at Bennett Vending.

A woman of unwavering faith, Joyce was a longtime devoted member of St. James Global Methodist Church, where she nurtured her spirit since age 11. Her family was of utmost importance to her, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

Joyce's interests were as varied as they were enriching. She found joy in crocheting, genealogy and history, tending to her garden, traveling—especially on bus tours and wintering in Arizona in their motorhome—and enjoying games and cards with family and friends.

After the passing of her husband, Joyce moved to Sunrise Retirement Community, where she thrived among many friends and actively participated in numerous activities, finding happiness and connection in her later years.

Joyce is survived by her son, Daniel (Susan) Bennett; daughters, Jenny (Richard) Hodges and Amy (Kelly) Tweedy; son-in-law, Roger Burgett; eight grandchildren, Michael Burgett, Mary Beth (Jeremy) Brock, Ron (Megan) Hodges, Jeremy (Kim) Hodges, Michelle (Christian) Mogensen, Matthew (Kristina) Bennett, Dustin (Megan) Tweedy, and Jacob (Kaitlin) Tweedy; and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Ruth Staben; and brother, Ron (Sharon) Janson, along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gilford "Gil" Bennett; her son in infancy, Tiny Tim Bennett; and daughter, Penny Burgett; sister, Laura (Jack) Dam, and brother-in-law, Karl Staben.

Joyce will be remembered for her steadfast faith, her vibrant spirit, and the love she shared with her family and friends. Her legacy continues to live on through those she touched in her remarkable journey of life.
