Jon Gatzemeyer, 81 of South Sioux City, Nebraska passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, October 21, 2025. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 1, 2025 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Jackson, Nebraska. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. at the church with 10:40 A.M. Rosary. Burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery in rural Jackson. 

Jon was born October 2,1944 to Elmer and Elizabeth (Wilbeck) Gatzemeyer. He grew up in Bancroft, Nebraska and after graduating, joined the United States Marine Corps, spending 1965-1966 in Vietnam.

Jon married Sandra Henrichs on August 5, 1967. Jon was with the Nebraska State Patrol from 1967-1979 and was stationed in Grand Island, Nebraska, later being transferred to South Sioux City in 1972. In 1979 Jon went to work for Great West Casualty in South Sioux City and was there for 33 years, retiring in 2005.

Jon was an avid hunter and was grateful to Dean and Kelly Lieber for all the years of hunting on their land. Jon also enjoyed gardening and kept the whole neighborhood in veggies, apples and pears.

Jon is survived by his wife Sandra; daughter, Laurie Beardsley and her husband, Russ of Sioux City; and a son, Brad Gatzemeyer and his wife, Sabrina of Medford, OR; two grandchildren, Jordan (Katie) Beardsley of Waterloo, IA and Joel (Mary) Beardsley of Moville, IA; brother, Norman (Mary) of Leesburg, FL; sister, Helen (John) Carman of Norfolk, NE, three sisters-in-law, Karen of Seward, NE, Jeanie of Seward, NE, and Sue (Ken) Ollson of Harrison, AR; and many nieces and nephews.

Jon was preceded in death by his parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Julie (Wally) Goans; and brothers, Ronald, Burton, George and David.
