Jon David Bresnahan, left this world on August 26, 2024, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, at the age of 43. Born on December 12, 1980, in Sioux City, Iowa to David and Karna (Stehr) Bresnahan. Jon lived a life defined by his enduring spirit and his unwavering love for his family, particularly his mother, Karna, who was his confidant and best friend throughout his life.
Growing up in Sioux City and later moving to Hinton, Iowa, Jon embraced his education with a joyful heart. He attended preschool at Morningside College and continued his schooling at Nodland Elementary, East Middle School, graduating from East High School in 1999, and participated in the Year 13 program until age 21. He was blessed with many wonderful teachers.
Jon's spirit as a fighter was evident in how he faced his many health challenges throughout life, most notably his battle with Hunter's Syndrome, which he faced with bravery and grace. He brought brightness to everyone around him, and his beautiful smile became a treasured emblem of his strength. Though he encountered numerous adversities, Jon managed to bring laughter and joy to others, even in life's toughest moments. Jon left this world a better place by being involved in many medical studies.
His love for his family extended beyond his mother. Equally significant was his close bond with his stepfather, Bill Schiltz, who entered his life during his teenage years, as well as his beloved Aunt Pam, who was like a second mom to him.
Jon was passionate about all types of racing. Over the years he developed many lasting friendships with NHRA drivers, especially Justin Ashley and Matt Hagan.
Jon is survived by his mom and stepdad, Karna (Bill) Schiltz of Hinton, IA; sister, Jeana (Karl) Braun of Lawton, IA and their children William and Audrey; brother, Drew (Sara) Schiltz of Spencer, IA and their son Gavin; grandpa, Lester (Freida) Stehr of Odebolt; aunts and uncles Bill (Kathy) Stehr, Pam (David) Simonson, Mona Schiltz, Karen Fiedler, Steve Schiltz, Jim (Sam) Schiltz, Mary (Randy) Stoos, Doug Schiltz . In addition, Jon will be missed by several cousins and many friends.
Jon is preceded in death by his father, David Bresnahan, grandparents Robert and Priscilla Bresnahan, Audrey Stehr, and Richard and June Schiltz.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, unforgettable memories, and a testament to perseverance. Jon will always be remembered for his resilience, his unwavering spirit, and the countless lives he touched with his kindness and infectious smile. His presence will be missed, but the impact he made will remain etched in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to all the amazing in-home nurses who provided such compassionate care and friendship.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel (6200 Morningside Ave.) in Sioux City. There will be a prayer service at 8:00 PM. Visitation will resume at 10:00 AM Saturday with Celebration of Life starting at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Odebolt Cemetery in Odebolt, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Jon's family and they will designate to his favorite charities.
