John N. Owings

John N. Owings, 86, of Sioux City passed away Monday, January 16, 2023 at his residence.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, January 23, 2023 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Reverend Del Olivier officiating.  Visitation with the family will be from 12:00 P.M. - 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home.  Burial will be at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Online condolences may be given at www.meyerbroschapels.com.  

John was born June 14, 1936 in Correctionville, Iowa, the son of Cecil and Christine (Peters) Owings.  He graduated from Leeds High School and enlisted in the Army Reserves.  John married Viola Tomoson on June 16, 1955.  He married Florene Williams on December 24, 1992.   John owned and operated Papa John’s Pizza on 24th Street for four years and also spent a lifetime in the packing house industry.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid archer and bowhunter.  John was a member of the Sioux Bowman Archery Club, the South Dakota Bear Bow Benders, a lifetime member of AA for over 44years and a member of NA.  He was a lifetime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and attended 1st Congregational Church of Christ.

John is survived by his children:  Michael Owings, Lorrie (Walter) Doss, and George Owings; step children:  Teresa (Brad) Keuck, Margaret Renzelman, Colleen Tyler, and Fred (Rae) Renzelman; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; two sisters:  Elaine Mitchell and Margie Reznicheck; and special girlfriend:  Pat Alfredson.

John was preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Christine, his wife Viola, his wife Florene “Flo”, his son John “Johnny” Owings,  and his brothers:  George, Albert, Elrod, Bill, and Tom.
