John H. Matz

John H. Matz, 81, of Jackson passed away Thursday, December 22, 2022.  Abiding by his wishes his body has been cremated. 

John was born the son of John C. and Burnst T. (Wood) Matz on June 9, 1941 in Sioux City, Iowa.  He married Barbara Ann Murphy on April 8, 1961 in Elk Point, South Dakota.  They made their home in South Sioux City.  Barbara passed away in 2013.

John worked for Port Neal Powerhouse as a crane and heavy equipment operator for many years.

He enjoyed going to car shows, fishing, and camping.  He raised German Shepherds and also had bulldogs he liked to walk. 

John is survived by his children, Joan Matz of Georgia, Jon Matz of South Sioux City, Jenni Matz of South Sioux City, Jeff Matz of Jackson, and Corey (Tonia) Matz of Sioux City; grandchildren, Hollie, Blake, Melissa, Sarah, Amanda, Tara, Cain, and Makenzie; and great-grandchildren, Emma, Ezra, Lucky, Jaylynn, Kameron, Alyssa, Nathan, Aaliyah, Kaylee, Dominic, Vincent, Eva, Victoria, and Zachary.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara; brothers, Larry and James; and granddaughter, Jessica.
