John D. Leitru

McCook Lake—John Leitru, 72, of McCook Lake passed away at his home, Sunday, August 6, 2023. A celebration of life will be held at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel on Saturday, August 12, 2023 from 1:00 to 4:00 P.M.

John Dean Leitru was born on June 12, 1951 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was the son of Virgil and Bonnie (Savoie) Leitru. He grew up in Vermillion, South Dakota, and attended school there.

John married Sharon (Peterson) on September 1, 1984 and made McCook Lake their home.

John worked in construction for 30 years with various contractors in the Sioux City Area. The last 15 years of his career he worked as Yard Manager for Holtze Construction. He retired from Holtze Construction in 2005. John was a proud member of Laborers International Union Local 427 and the Laborers International Union of North America Local 1140 49 years.

John loved his Truck. He really loved all of his vehicles. John took great pride in his home and yard, he spent many hours maintaining them. He loved spending time with his family.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Siouxland.

John is survived by his wife, Sharon; son, Neil (Tammy) Leitru of Yankton and their children, Brian Leitru, and Krissy (Mat Jensen) Leitru; son, Marty (Ashley) Leitru of Sioux City and their children, Dustin, Brett, and Alex Leitru; daughter, Laura (Seth) Anderson of Sioux Falls; sister, Lea Edwards of Vermillion; and brother, Tom Leitru of Merrill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Fred Savoie, and his brother-in-law, Larry Edwards.
