John Michael Fitzgerald, 69, of Burlington, IA passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at his daughter’s home.
Cremation rites will be accorded and no services are planned. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City is assisting with arrangements.
John was born in Clinton, IA to Gerald and June Fitzgerald. He grew up in Mt. Pleasant IA, being very active in football. His dream was to play for his favorite team, the Hawkeyes. This dream was fulfilled for one year before John's free spirt began to direct him onto a different path. He explored the country before settling down in Burlington and becoming a life-long resident. After working for Jerry Rigdon at Brite Way Window Cleaning for 14-years, John started and operated a successful business called A-1 Window Cleaning for over 35 years. He was a familiar figure all over Burlington riding a bicycle from job to job, pulling a small bike trailer full of window cleaning equipment, regardless of the weather. He also enjoyed and participated in a morning talk show on KCPS 1150AM. His distinctive voice, and booming slow delivery made him instantly recognizable as the show's #1 Iowa Hawkeye fan and defender, as well as allowing him the opportunity to develop a great friendship with Chip Giannettino.
John is survived by his daughter Michelle (Dan) Evert, grandson Jacob (Kristina) Elwell, both of Sioux City and sister Lynanne Ruby of New Jersey.
John was preceded in death by his mother and two brothers, Ed and Lane.
The family wishes to thank Hospice of Siouxland for helping John in his final days.
