Joe Morris Johnson, of Ponca, Nebraska, passed away Friday, April 25, 2025 at a local hospital.
A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at Tri State Christian Church, 3805 G St, South Sioux City, NE 68776. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. at the church.
Joe was born in Ponca, Nebraska on June 11, 1933, to Charles (Charlie) and Elsie (Kamrath) Johnson. He was the second of two sons. Norman, his brother, was six years older. Joe attended school in Ponca and graduated in 1951.
Joe grew up on the family farm west of Ponca and helped his dad farm where they raised corn, oats, and alfalfa. They had horses, cattle, and hogs.
Joe spent two years in the Army where he worked with missiles and was stationed in New York and was in the Iowa National Guard.
After he was discharged from the Army, Joe moved back to Ponca and started farming. Joe married the love of his life, Barbara (Kraft) on August 17, 1959. They farmed for a couple of years before they moved to Sioux City. They moved a few more times before settling in Ponca. Together they had four children.
Joe enjoyed fishing, “fixing” things, playing cards, dancing with Barb, and telling jokes. His family was his greatest joy.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Norman, and his daughter, Denece Mussleman.
Joe is survived by his wife, Barbara. Son-in-law, Dave Mussleman, his four children, Misty (Ray) Wilson, David (Nicole) Musselman and their daughters, Masie and Emma all of Platte City, MO, and Christie (Adan) Gasmann, their children Lily and Phoenix, of Leavenworth, KS. His son, Alan (Betsy) of Sioux City, and their two sons Matthew and George. Daughter Brenda (Jeff) Miller of Hinton, IA, and their children Casey (Heidi) Miller and son Slevin of Atoka, TN, Mariah Miller of Hinton, Kourtney (Ian) Koskovich, and their son Kutler, of Kingsley, IA. Daughter, Jennie (Greg) Moore, of Freeport, Ohio, sister-in-law, Bonnie Johnson and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Miller, Dave Musselman, Greg Moore, Pat Pridie, Bob Curry, and Jerad Curry.
Honorary Pallbearers are the Grandchildren.
