Joanne C. Craig

July 24, 1939 — April 21, 2022

Joanne C. Craig, 82, of Sioux City, IA passed away Thursday, April 21st evening due to cancer in the comfort of her home.  She was born in Menominee, MI to Virginia and Peter Christiansen who preceded her in death as well as her brother Donald Christiansen and sister Alice Mae Rosenbaum.

Joanne is survived by her three children, John G. Vermilye Jr. (Cindy), Julee V. Zugel (Mark) and Jodie V. Bracken (Mark), grandchildren Eric, Dana, Adam, Lee, Jason and Christina, great grandchildren Silas, Zachary, Atticus, Mason, Brandi, Kyle, and Josh; great great grandchildren, Jordyn and Arial as well as nine nieces and nephews and first husband Jack Vermilye Sr. (Sally).

From the beginning of her childhood growing up on the shore of Lake Michigan to the end of her life she had a passion for boating, swimming, fishing, golf and into the winter with cross country and down-hill skiing. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends playing bridge, Euchre and Liverpool which was a family favorite.

Our mom was a successful City Manager for cities such as Allegan, Bangor and Plainwell, MI to the east coast of Claremont, NH.  Once retired she kept active with PEO, Catholic Sisterhood, Holy Cross, and GOP activities and had a great deal of fun as a Walmart Greeter.

Visitation is Thursday, April 28th, 6pm with a vigil at 7pm at Meyer Brothers Funeral home on Hamilton Blvd., Sioux City, IA.  Her final resting place will be at Riverside Cemetery in Menomonee, MI.

In lieu of flowers we ask that you donate in our mom’s name to Hospice of Siouxland.
