Joann M. Martin, 64 of Hinton passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2024 from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 3, 2024 at Central Baptist Church. Visitation will begin at the church at 9:00 A.M. 

Joann was born the daughter of Elmer and Florence (Gors) Hansen on March 23, 1960 in Irene, South Dakota. She graduated from the University of South Dakota and then obtained a master’s degree from University of Nebraska Omaha. Joann married Steve Martin September 28, 1991. They made their home in Sioux City for 13 years before building their dream home outside of Hinton where they enjoyed the last 20 years together.

Joann was a therapist in the addictions/mental health field for over 35 years. She last worked at Turner Therapy Services before her recent retirement. She helped many, many people cope with life.

Joann was a master gardener. She loved tending to her massive flower gardens on her acreage and creating unique items in her craft room. She was an avid reader and a beautiful singer. She enjoyed traveling, she made trips to New Zealand, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Jamica, Costa Rica and Mexico. But most of all, she enjoyed being a dog mom for her corgis.

Joann is survived by her husband, Steve Martin; son, Adam (Jamie) Boomgarden; stepdaughter, Danielle Johnson; brothers, Leon (Bernice) Hansen, Roger (Carol) Hansen, and Raymond (Stephanie) Hansen; grandchildren, Samantha, Erica, Eli, Makyal, Kaylee, Mason, Cadell, Kyler, Anaya, and Mila; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Donnie and Dennis Erikson; stepchild, Nathan Martin; and grandson, Mason Reed.
