Joann Elaine (Goetsch) Johnson, 90, of Sioux City passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a brief illness in battling dementia during her last few years. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at Mayflower Congregational Church, with a visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Joann was born on April 21, 1932 in Sioux City, to Martin and Leslie (Pecaut) Goetsch. Her siblings were Roland Goetsch, Beverly (Goetsch) Junck, Marvin Goetsch, Gerry Goetsch, and Roger Goetsch.
She married Conrad “Connie” Johnson on July 27, 1951 in Sioux City. Together they had three children: Kathy (Johnson) Gastro, Marty Johnson, and Roger Johnson.
Joann attended Central High School and worked at Palmer Candy Store for many years. She enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling, playing cards, arts and crafts, Shrine Auxillary, and teaching her grandchildren how to swim. She loved her family and getting together as often as possible, and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. She loved traveling to Arizona and Texas during the winter months, and made many wonderful friends that they stayed close with for many years.
Survivors include her brother, Roger Goetsch and his wife Nancy; her daughter, Kathy (Johnson) Gastro; her son, Marty Johnson; her son, Roger Johnson and his wife Cindy (Wheelock) Johnson; eight grandchildren: Autumn (Johnson) Szwak, Dan Gastro and Hilary Rice, Sam Gastro, Myles Johnson and wife Stacia Johnson, Sage Johnson and fiancé Paul Homstad, Bailey Johnson and husband Josh Johnson, Ross Johnson and Marrisa Williams, Jamie (Johnson) Monnin and husband Kirby Monnin; and 10 great-grandchildren; Melanie, Madalyn, Ryleigh, Avery, Harper, Finn, Mattie, Peyton, Cora, and Ruby.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers and their wives: Roland and Mary (Brown) Goetsch, and Marvin and Blanche (Spender) Goetsch, Jerry and Mary (Baker) Goetsch; sister, Beverly (Goetsch) and Clair Junck; and many nieces and nephews who were all very cherished and loved; along with her special friends Tom and Colleen Schroeder, Don and Gerri Harbeck, and Ron Ruher.
