Joan Buckner Krage

Joan Buckner Krage, 90, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, December 24, 2022.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 A.M. Friday, December 30, 2022 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Father David Hemann officiating.  Joan's service will be lived streamed, and can be viewed at either of the following links:

Visitation with the family will be Thursday, December 29, 2022 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. with a Vigil Service at 7:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.  Burial will be at Logan Park Cemetery.  Online condolences may be given at www.meyerbroschapels.com

Joan was born October 17, 1932, in Danville, Illinois to John Jefferson Buckner and Bessie Dewey Buckner.  She lived in Danville and Cincinnati, Ohio for seven years before moving to Sioux City, Iowa in 1939.

Joan graduated from Central High School in Sioux City in 1950 and attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Missouri for two years.  She then attended the University of Nebraska graduating in 1954 with a B.S. in Business Administration.

She was employed by Hallmark Cards, Inc. in Kansas City, Missouri for two years and then moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in 1956 and worked for the Broward National Bank and Stockton, Watley, Davin Mortgage Co.  She also worked for Eberhardt Co. in Minneapolis, Minnesota. 

Joan married Ronald Betz Krage on November 25, 1961, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Sioux City.  They had two children, a daughter Courtney Ann and a son Ronald Gary.  They were married for fifty-six very happy years before Ron passed away in 2018. 

Joan was a member of Alpha Phi Fraternity, Chapter IL – PEO, the Junior League of Sioux City, the First United Methodist Church and then later the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, and Dollars & Sense Investment Club.  She served for many years on boards of the Boys and Girls Home and Family Services, volunteered with St. Luke’s Hospital Auxiliary, Western Iowa Tech DWIT radio station and the June Nylen Cancer Center. 

She is survived by her daughter Courtney Ann and partner Tom Renick of St. Paul, Minnesota, son Ronald Gary and his wife Teresa of Parker, Colorado, granddaughter Erin Katherine of Seattle, Washington, grandson Matthew Ronald of Parker, Colorado, nephews Jeff Klopstad of Granby, Colorado and Andy Klopstad of Ames, Iowa and several other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ronald Betz Krage, and her twin sister Jean Buckner Klopstad.

Joan enjoyed spending winters in Marco Island, Florida and Fountain Hills, Arizona, and summer visits to Okoboji, Iowa.  Her happiest times were being with her husband and family.

Memorials may be given to the June E. Nylen Regional Cancer Center, Hospice of Siouxland or the charity of your choice.
