Joan E. Gustavson

Joan E. Gustavson, 95 of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2025 after a brief illness. A memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, December 29, 2025 at United Lutheran Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service time at the church. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.

Joan was born August 8, 1930 in Sioux City to Dale and Mary (McGee) McColley and grew up with one brother, Ted and one sister, Wynona. She graduated from Central High School in 1948. She married Cliff “Gus” Gustavson in 1949 with whom she had five children.

She worked at the phone company, the Census, and for the Sioux City Community School District.

Joan was an avid golfer and member of the Sun Valley Monday Par 3 Ladies League. She also loved to sing. She was a member of the women’s chorus called The Treble Clef Singers and was in the church choir. She was active in church at Immanuel/United Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her daughters, Jane Gustavson and Ann (Jim) Schneider; two sons-in-law, Craig Gjerde and Steve Uhl; daughter-in-law, Kalpana Gustavson; 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gus; children, Amy, Susan; and Bruce; and siblings, Ted and Wynona.
