Jim Brownlee passed away on Friday, April 11, 2025, in Sioux City, IA, at the age of 89.
Jim was born in Cushing, Iowa to Marie and Marvin Brownlee on June 2, 1935. In Ida Grove in the early years, he married Ardis Skaren. They were married for almost 60 years and were blessed with three children: Susan, Pam, and Scott. Many summers were spent vacationing in Okoboji. After moving to Holstein, Jim worked for the fire department and then began repairing tractors and farm equipment, a job he was very good at. After later settling down in Sioux City, he worked at Michalsons, Bachelors, and drove a semi for Bekins. Ardis passed away in 2014 and he married Lois Steinhauer Loetz in 2016. They traveled the whole United States together. This was something Jim always wanted to do, and he had a wonderful time. He learned to dance and loved it. Jim also loved riding and always had a motorcycle.
Survivors include his wife Lois; daughter Susan (Rick) Krogh; son Scott; sisters Janice (Lyle) Shafer and Dolores Williams; three stepdaughters Carol (Bob) Neuburn, Valerie (Chip) Whaley and Denice (Paul) Ingalls; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ardis; daughter Pam; brother Jerry; sisters Dorothy (Rick) and Donna Smith.
Developing heart trouble, a week before he passed was a difficult time, and he did it with dignity saying, “he would die with a smile on his face.” Jim was one of a kind and everyone loved him.
