Jeffrey “Jeff” C. Jaynes, 67, of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, June 19th, 2025, at The University of Nebraska Medical Center, from complications related to brain surgery.
Jeff was born October 14th, 1957, in Sioux City, Iowa to Marilyn (Randall) Jaynes and Glenn Jaynes. He attended Sioux City Schools, and would eventually go on to work for the Sioux City School Board for over 35 years. While he held many positions within the School Board, he spent the majority of his years working on pool maintenance. While working as building engineer at West High School, he oversaw a project to remove all of the asbestos from the building.
Jeff enjoyed fishing, riding his motorcycle, bird watching, and in his younger years was an avid weightlifter. However, his greatest joy in life was his family.
Jeff was actively present in the lives of his children, missing very few, if any activities while they were young. He took his son, Jarrid, to multiple major league baseball games, and loved watching the Vikings every week with his son, despite knowing his heart was likely to be broken. He traveled to many small towns for volleyball tournaments with his daughter Allison, and they enjoyed talking politics over coffee almost daily. He carried this through to his grandchildren, and enjoyed watching them play sports and dance, never missing an opportunity to support them. He picked his grandchildren up from school every day, never missing an opportunity to spend time with them.
Jeff was a friend of Bill W.’s for over 48 years and served the AA community in many capacities. He helped countless people in their recovery and never gave up on a single person.
Jeff is survived by his two children, Allison (Cody) Owings, Jarrid Glenn Jaynes, his beloved grandchildren Wren and Finn Owings, brother Tom Jaynes, sister Cindy (Jaynes) Wood, girlfriend Carla, all of Sioux City, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by his fur baby Harvey, and fur grandbabies Leo, Quinn, and Chili.
He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, infant brother Johnny Torgerson, brother-in-law Mike Wood, niece Lisa Hoefer, nephew Christopher Jaynes, uncle and aunt Howard and June (Randall) Wilson, uncle Mike Randall, cousin Pierce Wilson. He will also be reunited with his fur babies Daisy, Jack, and Sadie.
