Jeannette V. Woolworth

September 29, 1937 — September 19, 2025

Sioux City, Iowa

Jeannette V. Woolworth, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Accura Healthcare in Aurelia, IA, at the age of 87. Born on September 29, 1937, in Sioux City, IA, Jeannette was the daughter of Edward T. and Gertrude (Abts) Jordan. She spent her early years on a farm near Hubbard, NE, before her family moved to Sioux City in 1951. Jeannette graduated from Heelan High School in 1956 and later was united in marriage to her husband, Merle Woolworth, on June 1, 1957, in California. Their union was blessed with two sons, and together they made their home in Sioux City.

Jeannette dedicated much of her life to her family, being a busy homemaker during her sons' formative years. Following this time, she served as a church secretary at St. Francis Catholic Church, where her deep faith flourished. In 1977, she embarked on a career as an administrative assistant in the Finance Department for the City of Sioux City, a position she held until her retirement in 2002, when she devoted her time to caring for Merle after he suffered a stroke.

Her vibrant personality endeared her to many. Jeannette was known for being outgoing and spunky, and her family was the cornerstone of her life. She treasured moments spent with her two sons, Bryan (Melinda) Woolworth of Raytown, MO, and David (Twila) Woolworth of Washta, IA, as well as her six grandchildren: Ryan Matzelle, Calvin Langschwager, Kyle Woolworth, Dustin (Deanna) Woolworth, Erin (Don) Howard, and Dakota (Sam) Woolworth. All of them brought immense joy to her life, further enhanced by her six great-grandchildren: Marley Woolworth, Logan Woolworth, Simone Woolworth, Adalyn Howard, Amiah Howard, and Landon Woolworth, and her great-great-granddaughter, Oaklyn Woolworth.

Jeannette also leaves behind her brother, William Jordan, along with her sisters-in-law, Pat Jordan, Phyllis Jordan, Janice Gatz and Donna Baustian. In addition, she is survived by several nieces and nephews who will fondly remember her warmth and love.

Her passions extended beyond her family; she enjoyed doing diamond art and puzzles and was an avid sports fan, particularly of the Green Bay Packers. An enthusiastic collector of angels, Jeannette was also active with mall walkers and volunteered at her church's Bargain Center.

Jeannette's professional accomplishments were significant; during her working years, she was involved with the American Business Women's Association (ABWA) and the IOWANA, being honored as Woman of the Year for her contributions.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle Woolworth; her parents; her siblings: Elaine Jordan; Leona (Herb) Ringler; Delilah Fuehrer; Edward Jordan; and Robert Jordan; and her sister-in-law, Joan Jordan.

Loving and devoted, Jeannette V. Woolworth will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
