Jeanne Lamar Wissing

   Jeanne Lamar Wissing of Sioux City, Iowa, 91, died on March 31, 2023. 

   Visitation will be Friday, April 28, 2023, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, 3220 Stone Park Blvd, Sioux City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Holy Cross Parish Blessed Sacrament Church, 3012 Jackson St, Sioux City. Interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery.

   Jeanne was born August 4, 1931 to William and Mary Frances (Betz) Lamar. She attended Sioux City schools, graduating from Central High School in 1949. She attended Manhattanville College in New York City and the University of Nebraska where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. After college Jeanne and her sister Curran ventured to San Francisco, CA where they worked for several years before returning to Iowa. 

   In 1960, she married William “Bill” Wissing. They were happily married for 45 years and owned an interior design business for 22 years. Beloved mother of Carolyn (Marcia Oswald) Wissing and Fredric Wissing. Her two foster grandchildren were sources of great joy and many smiles. 

   Jeanne was active in Junior League, a church council member and a volunteer at the Cancer Center in Sioux City. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing bridge and poker. Jeanne and Bill spent many summers in Okoboji and Thanksgivings in Cedar Rapids, surrounded by their treasured family and friends. Jeanne enjoyed traveling and spending time with her nieces and nephews.

   Jeanne is preceded in death by her husband, Bill, her parents Bill and Buster Lamar, her sister Curran Rosser (husband Skip) and brother Len Lamar (wife Mary (Kinquist) Lamar).
