Jeanette was born on August 2, 1932, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Everett and Evelyn Gunsolley. She graduated from South Sioux City High School and later studied music at Morningside College.
Family always came first for Jeanette, and she had a remarkable ability to see the good in everyone. She was kind to all she met and formed loving connections wherever she went. She will be deeply missed.
She worked as a bookkeeper at the family business, Everett’s Furniture, until her retirement following a brain aneurysm thirty years ago—a survival her family considered a miracle.
Jeanette had a lifelong passion for music. She sang her first solo at the age of thirteen and went on to play piano and organ for church services and numerous community events. She taught Sunday School when her daughters were young and belonged to several clubs. A devoted member of the Methodist Church in South Sioux City, Jeanette gave her life to Jesus at a young age.
Christmas was especially meaningful to her, as she would play Christmas carols while family members sang along. She delighted in singing children’s songs to younger family members, often adding her own playful routines. She loved sharing stories from her past, telling jokes, painting, and enjoying her sweets—particularly during Saturday morning coffee with family and friends. Her afternoons were never complete without coffee and something sweet.
Jeanette is survived by her three daughters: Terri (Bill) Johnston of Dakota City; Cindy Hendrickson of Grand Rapids, Minnesota; and Lisa (Kevin) Boneschans of South Sioux City; three siblings: Judy Farley, Jerry (Margie) Gunsolley, and Jim (Debby) Gunsolley, all of South Sioux City; seven grandchildren: Jason (Jenny) Walding, Jerod Walding, Jenny (Brian) Anderson, Josh (Kristin) Hendrickson, Daniel Hendrickson, Kayla (Blake) Reil, and Josiah Boneschans; and ten great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, George Peterson; son-in-law Greg Hendrickson; and her parents, Everett and Evelyn Gunsolley.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Jason and Jerod Walding, Josh and Daniel Hendrickson, Josiah Boneschans, Brian Anderson, and Blake Reil.
The family extends special thanks to Visiting Angels, Cheryl Watterson, and St. Croix Hospice for their compassionate care.
