Jeanette Rae “Jeanie” Keating, 84, of Dakota Dunes, passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at a local hospital.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Visitation with the family will begin at 10:00 a.m. Private burial will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Jeanie was born February 24, 1942, in Sioux City, the daughter of Burl and Esther (Mitchell) Cloud. She graduated from Leeds High School in 1960. On August 12, 1960, Jeanie married Jerry C. Keating, and together they were blessed with four children.
Jeanie was a strong, devoted, and loving mother, grandmother and aunt. Following Jerry’s passing more than 30 years ago, she continued to be the heart of her family, always making sure her children and grandchildren knew they were loved and supported. She was the person they could always count on—whether they needed someone to laugh with or a shoulder to cry on. She was always there, encouraging her family and celebrating their lives and accomplishments.
Jeanie had a warm and outgoing personality. She cherished her many friendships and made staying connected with them a priority. These friendships were a meaningful part of her life.
She treasured her Wednesday card group, where she gathered with dear friends, including her best friend of 59 years. Despite a fierce game of cards, they always celebrated each other’s birthdays and had themed luncheons.
She also looked forward to annual trips with her high school friends, whom she referred to as her “family of sisters,” a tradition that brought them together year after year. This special circle of friends began over 75 years ago and remained an important part of her life. They recently gathered together at their Leeds High School reunion.
Jeanie loved the community she shared with her neighbors, who became like family. She enjoyed their almost-daily gatherings, whether sitting outside, heading out together for a day of shopping, or ending the day with dinner. Her neighbors brought her great joy and were always there for her, offering a helping hand.
Jeanie enjoyed an active life; she loved to travel, especially with her children and grandchildren. She was always ready for the next adventure. For many years she participated in golf and bowling leagues, weekly dances, along with being an avid Explorers and Saltdogs fan.
She was known for her positive spirit and happy outlook on life. She had a way of finding joy in the people and moments around her. Jeanie leaves behind a legacy of love, friendship, strength, and joy. Her family and friends will forever cherish the memories of her laughter, her positivity, her generous heart, and the love she gave so freely. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Survivors include her children, Teri (Jerry) Eike of Savage, MN; Dr. Kim Keating of Belleville, IL; Burl Keating of Destin, FL; and Holly (Shane) Tritz of Waverly, NE; grandchildren, Jeanette (Jack) Brady, Jill Eike (Zach), Morgan Tritz, and Peyton Tritz; and nephews, David and Randy Weisenburger.
Jeanie was preceded in death by her parents, Burl and Esther Cloud; and her beloved husband, Jerry Keating.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society in Jeanie’s memory.
