Jean M. Hattig, 74, of South Sioux City, NE returned to her heavenly home on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 after a brief battle with lung cancer. Her love and devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and gave her peace.Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE with Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Burial will be in the Dakota City Cemetery in Dakota City, NE. Visitation with the family present will begin at 9:00 A.M. prior to the service at the funeral home.Jean was born to Eldon Elkins and Clara L. (Tikalsky) Karten on April 13, 1941 in Sioux City, IA. Sheattended school in South Sioux City, NE. She was blessed with a large and loving family. Jean married Harold W. Hattig on August 31, 1957 in Sioux City, IA. To this union of marriage was born ten children, a total of five girls and five boys. The couple resided in South Sioux City. Jean was a very busy stay at home mother. Throughout the years Jean was employed at various places, which include Swifts, Windcharger, Waldbaums Egg Plant, and Apex Fish and Tackle.Jean enjoyed her family. They meant the world to her. When recently asked, "What's most important to you?" She replied, "My kids, my family." When asked, "How many children do you have?" She answered, "Ten and I enjoyed each one of them." She enjoyed boating, fishing and camping. Jean loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Janet (Dave) McGill of Sioux Falls, SD, Barbara (John) Olson of Jefferson, SD, John (Christeena) Hattig of Sioux City, IA, Charlene (Randy) Smith of McCook Lake, SD, David Hattig of Sioux City, IA, Angela (James) Johnson of South Sioux City, NE, Sandra Legg (Terry Boyd) of Homer, NE, Daniel (Marjorie) Hattig of Sioux City, IA and Steven Hattig of Fort Dodge, IA; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Hattig of South Sioux City, NE; son, R.R. - Who always held a SPECIAL place in her heart!; 20 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; sister, Donna K. Clements of South Sioux City, NE; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Hattig of South Sioux City, NE and Frances Burwell of Camarillo, CA; brother-in-law, Leo (Olga) Hattig of Santa Rosa, CA; cousin, Fred Veenker of South Sioux City, NE; several nieces and a nephew; and dear close friend, Nancy Riffey of Regency Square Care Center.Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; son, William (Bill) Hattig; and a special uncle, Andrew Tikalsky.Memorials may be directed to the family to be determined at a later date.
