Obituary

It is with heavy hearts and deep love that we announce the passing of Jayme Dean Kleinberg, 66, of Sioux City, IA, on June 4, 2026.

Jayme was born in Sioux City and grew up in South Sioux City, Nebraska. He is the son of Garrieth K Kleinberg and Monette Lou (Grant) Kleinberg.

In 1976, Jayme enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was stationed in California. During basic training, he met the love of his life, lifelong partner, and wife, Denise “Dee” Rae Collingham. The couple married on August 25, 1980, in Dakota City, Nebraska. Jayme and Dee moved back to California while he worked across the country leading crews building communication towers. In the summer of 1995, Jayme and Dee returned to the Sioux City area, where he began his career as a conductor with the Union Pacific Railroad. After 29 dedicated years, he retired in 2024.

Jayme had many passions in life, including Nebraska Cornhuskers football, Harley-Davidson motorcycles, and his beloved pets. He was also a longtime member of the Nebraska chapter of the Iron Pigs motorcycle club. This is where he proudly earned the nickname “Cookie” because he could grill just about anything, though his legendary steaks were always the crowd favorite.

To know Jayme was to know his love, loyalty, and acceptance of everyone he met. He adored his wife, his family, and his friends. Everyone who knew him could count on being greeted with a big kiss, a giant bear hug, and a smile that made you feel instantly at home. He loved deeply, laughed loudly, and made people feel seen and valued. Jayme will be remembered for the warmth he carried, the stories he shared, the meals he cooked, and the unconditional love he gave so freely. His absence leaves an ache that words cannot measure, but his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Garrieth and Monette Kleinberg; uncle, Corby Grant; cousin, Karen Juhl; and his nephew, Cameron Dean Condon.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Denise Kleinberg; siblings, Joy (Nels) Pallesen, Cindy (Mark) Johnston, Chris (Denise) Kleinberg, Tami (Gary) Thibodeau, Cash (Dawn) Kleinberg, Gabe (Brea) Kleinberg; his aunt, Michele (Mike) Rager; and his many nieces and nephews and numerous cousins and in-laws.
