Janice Eileen Painter, 87 of Sioux City passed away Friday, March 27, 2026. A memorial service will be 5:00 P.M. Friday, April 10, 2026 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation will begin at the funeral home at 4:00 P.M
Janice was born the daughter of Elmer and Lucille (Baker) Loker on January 4, 1939 in Sioux City, Iowa. She graduated from East High School in 1958. Janice married Noel Painter and to this union they had a son Curtis, whom she took great pride in raising. They later ended their marriage.
Her first job out of school was working at IPS, now known as Mid America. Janice also worked for the Sioux City School System driving the school bus. She eventually started working for the City of Sioux City Transit System, driving the City Bus for several years until she retired.
After her retirement, Janice enjoyed going to listen to her brother Elwin play with Jerry O'Dell's band at local nursing homes around Siouxland. She was a member of the Siouxland Center, where she would gather with friends.
Janice is survived by her son, Curtis; sister, Sharon (Mike) Miller; sister-in-law, Priscilla (Norman) Loker; granddaughter, Ali (Thomas) Hens; great grandchildren, Oliver and Brinley Hens; nieces and nephews, Jim, Julie, Jackie, Rob, Chris, Tim, Tom, Libby, Lisa, Scott, and Shelly; several great nieces and nephews and several great great nieces and nephews and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Elwin (Barb) Loker, Elaine (Bob) Keegan, and Norman Loker; and a nephew, Michael Scott Keegan.
Janice took great pride in all of her nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.
We will miss her deeply and will cherish all our great memories of all the fun times we had with her.
The family would also like to thank her niece Jackie, Dr. Brownlee, UnityPoint and Hospice for all the great care they gave Janice, and a special thanks to the staff at Holy Spirit, who became a second family to Jan, and the great care they gave her.
