Janet "Jan" Rae Monk, a beloved person known for her kindness and warmth, peacefully departed from this world on June 3, 2024, in Sioux City, where she was born on July 22, 1943, to Clyde and Hollis (Goss) Savage. Jan faced the loss of her mother at a young age but found solace and love when her father remarried Lillian Mayfield in 1960.
Jan graduated from Leeds High School in Sioux City and embarked on a life filled with love and dedication to her community and family. On November 30, 1961, she married the love of her life, Wayne Monk, with whom she shared a deep bond and two children, Renee and Todd. Together, they dedicated themselves to serving their community, particularly through their involvement in the Siouxland Youth Athletics softball program.
Jan's warmth extended beyond her family to her work as a Teacher's Aide for 27 years in the Sioux City Community Schools. Her presence brought joy to countless students and colleagues alike, leaving a lasting impact on the lives she touched.
Outside of her professional life, Jan found joy in the simple pleasures of playing cards, gardening and being in the sunshine, cleaning, hosting Sunday dinners for her family, and traveling to Missouri to visit loved ones. Her bright blue eyes and big smile remain vivid memories for all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was a dedicated member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Sioux City, finding joy and fellowship among her church family.
Janet is survived by her loving children: Renee (Leon) Crabtree and Todd (Angel) Monk, grandchildren: April (Jason) Baldwin, Tristan Monk, Landan Monk, and Ashtan Monk, great-grandchildren: Jordan Baldwin, Blake (Kaelyn) Larson, Kaden Baldwin, Caleb Baldwin, and Huxley Monk, great-great-granddaughter Bexley Baldwin, siblings Mary (Jack) Campbell and John (Carmen) Mayfield, nieces, nephews, and numerous relatives and friends.
