Janet Lorraine Guillaume

November 16, 1941 — October 14, 2023

Janet Lorraine Guillaume, lifelong resident of Sioux City, IA, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2023, surrounded by family.

Janet was born on November 16, 1941, to Bob and Alice Stokes in Sioux City. Shortly after graduating from Central High School, she married her dedicated husband, Thomas James Guillaume, in 1960.  Janet spent a major part of her life taking care of the financial operations for the family business, Guillaume Painting, but her primary focus was raising 3 children, Kris, Dan, and JRob.  Her life was devoted to her family, and this was consistently her priority without fail.

Janet was the powerful matriarch of the family - a force whose determination could not be denied.  Although she was strong-willed and stubborn at times, she had an enormous heart.  She was a charismatic person who deeply connected with and brightened the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know her.  She had a brilliant, sharp sense of humor. Throughout her life, she was appreciated for her honesty, outspokenness, quick wit, and generosity.  She was loyal, trustworthy, courageous, and decisive.  She had a deep love for animals and treated the many dogs and cats through her life as if they were humans.  She had a special gift for nurturing her many plants. She loved and was natural at decorating their home to be beautiful, warm, and inviting.  Despite living with Multiple Sclerosis for most of her life, Janet did not complain about her limitations and instead showed strength, grace and a sense of humor while always focusing on helping to improve the lives of others.

Janet leaves behind her devoted husband, Thomas Guillaume; her 3 children (and their spouses), Kris McCarthy (Dennis), Daniel Guillaume (Keydi) and JRob Zetelumen (Tamara); and 6 grandchildren Madelaine, Anna, Kyra, Soren, Callen and Keylani.

Janet wholeheartedly touched the lives of those whose path she crossed. She carried herself with dignity, strength, consistency, and love, and she will be missed dearly.  Although Janet chose not to have a service, if you wish to honor her memory, please perform an act of kindness for someone.  In lieu of flowers or a contribution, please consider donating to the Siouxland Humane Society (1015 Tri-view Avenue, Sioux City, 712-252-2614; siouxlandhumanesociety.org).
