Janet Lea Grimsley, 91, of Sioux City passed away on Monday, December 8, 2025, at a Sioux City Hospital with family present.
A funeral Mass will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday, December 12, 2025, at Mater Dei Parish - Church of the Nativity in Sioux City IA. Visitation will be Thursday evening December 11, 2025, from 5-7 PM, with a Vigil Service at 7 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. A private family burial will take place later Friday afternoon.
Janet was born on April 20, 1934, in Akron IA with 8 sisters and one brother.
Janet enjoyed playing all types of games and lived a lucky and blessed life, while enjoying time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She raised six children and did some secretarial work for the Board of Realtors. She eventually obtained her license to be a professional Realtor and helped many people with their real estate needs. Later, she became the Executive Director for the Board of Realtors in our area. Besides all the normal tasks of this occupation, she was also known as “mother Grimsley” as people often sought her out due to her wisdom of many years in the profession, of being a spouse and a mother.
She wintered in Texas for many winters. She was a devout convert to her Catholic faith. If one word could describe her, it might be SPARKLE as she added light to everyone’s path she crossed.
Survivors include her six children: Mary Hacker and her husband Charles of Sioux City, Jerry Grimsley and his wife Judy of Sioux City, Thomas Grimsley and his wife Gina of Sioux City, Ron Grimsley and his wife Brenda of Sloan, IA, Craig Grimsley of Bronson, IA, Ann Hollis and her husband Gerry of Olathe, KS; 21 grandchildren: Amy Hacker, Jenny Cramer, Britnee Jorgensen, Lindsay Hacker, Treye and Shay Hacker, Jaimee Grimsley, Kellee Hildreth, Lindee Brosamle, Jessica Barnes, Dylan Grimsley, Hannah Grimsley, Josh Grimsley, Holly Smith, Jordan, Alex and Hylarie Dorpinghaus, Kellen and Louden Grimsley, Morgan Ilaria, and Kendal Benson, 36 great grandchildren, and her sister Jo Ellen Baack.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents Lester and Wilhelmina (Herzig) Heyl, her husband Gail Grimsley and siblings: Lester “Fritz” Heyl, Valda (Pete) Cosgrove, Lois (Jerry) Muck, Cheryl (Dean) Gallagher, Mary (Robert) Wright, Wilma “Bebe” (Eldon) Smith, Margaret (Robert) Lias, and Carla (Larry) Vennard. Her Great Granddaughter Charlee Jo Jorgensen, and daughter in law Sonja Grimsley (Craig).
Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Shay Hacker, Jaimee Grimsley, Dylan Grimsley, Josh Grimsley, Louden Grimsley, and Morgan Ilaria.
In lieu of plants and flowers, memorial gifts can be donated to Mater Dei Parish in Janet’s name.

Following the Mass, everyone is invited to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for a luncheon and time of fellowship.
