James W. Vail

James W. Vail, 78 of Sioux City passed away Sunday, October 9, 2022.  A memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at St. Mark Lutheran Church.  

James was born the son of Seba and Helen (Hastie) Vail on December 30, 1943 in Indianola, Iowa.  He graduated from East High School and Morningside College.  James married Kathleen Anderson on July 3, 1970.  To this union a son, Matthew was born. 

He worked for AB Dick Products and Gateway before doing some substitute teaching for the Sioux City schools and also Western Iowa Tech. 

James enjoyed writing poetry and was an avid reader.  He liked to stay active riding his bike and volunteering at ArtSplash. 

James is survived by his son, Matthew (Barbara) Vail of Sioux City; grandchildren, Jase, McKennen, Alayna, Indy, Nathan, and Emmett; and great-grandson, Gunther.  

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bill.
