James W. Rus

October 10, 1960 — January 7, 2023

James W. “Jim” Rus, 62 of Osage Beach, Missouri passed away Saturday, January 7, 2023 in Cozumel, Mexico.  A visitation will be Friday, January 20, 2023 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.

James was born the son of John and Connie (Boluyt) Rus on October 10, 1960, in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  He graduated from Floyd Valley High School in Alton, Iowa and then obtained a degree in computer programming from WITCC. James married Kathy Vrieze on June 1, 1990.  To this union three children were born.  In 2000, he married Cheri Rieken, whom he later divorced.

During his lifetime, James worked as a computer programmer for several companies, including TWA and MBS Books. He also worked construction and poured cement off and on over the years.  James loved visiting new places and spent most of his free time traveling around the country in his van with his dog, Ally.

When he wasn’t traveling, Jim was tinkering with cars or on the water fishing and boating. Jim also found joy in spending time with his family and grandchildren. “Ringo” or “Gilligan,” as most people called him, was known for being the life of the party. His carefree spirit and sense of humor brought joy to all who knew him.

James is survived by his children, Jacob (Natalie) Rus of Sioux City, Katy (Landon) Rus of Sioux City, and John (Tori) Rus of Osage Beach, Missouri; siblings, Robert (Melissa) Rus of Paullina, Iowa, Donald (Debi) Rus of Maryland, Thomas (Lyzel) Rus of Pasco, Washington, Jon (Gayle) Rus of Seward, Alaska, and David (Connie) Rus of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and grandchildren, Jackson Rus, Avayla Rus, and Giada Rus.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
