James E. “Jim” Rhymer, 78, of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, October 1th, 2023 at a Omaha hospital.
Per Jim’s request, cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held will be at the Elks Club, 1001 Tri-View Ave, on Sunday, October 22nd from 2:00 – 5:00 P.M. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
Jim was born September 9, 1945, in Sioux City, the son of Irving and Ruth (Blixt) Rhymer. He graduated from Central High School in 1963 and attended Morningside College. Jim married Vicky McKewon on May 15, 1965. To this union, three children were born. Jim worked as a manager for Zenith, Solar Plastics, and retired from FIMCO. After retirement, he worked part-time at Fareway until this past summer.
Jim loved woodworking and enjoyed fishing, gardening, working in the yard, cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes and Minnesota Vikings, and spending time with his family. He also loved music and was a member of the Vicky Lea Trio for 11 years. With his dry sense of humor, he kept his family, friends, and coworkers entertained.
Jim is survived by his wife Vicky Rhymer of Sioux City; his children: Jeffrey Rhymer of Sioux City, Rhonda (Mike) Luesebrink of Sioux City, and Jeremy Rhymer of Sioux City; seven grandsons: Adam Rhymer, Alex Rhymer, Jacob (Taylor) Luesebrink, Daniel Luesebrink and fiancé Jacey Ross, Max Luesebrink and significant other Sarah Torres, Liam Rhymer, and Dylan Rhymer; one great granddaughter on the way; two siblings: Bill (Jenny) Rhymer and Shirley (Sandy) Grillet; by his in-laws the Lillie’s, the Coughlin’s and the Mckewons; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
