James R. "Jim" Kerr

  James R. “Jim” Kerr, 76 of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2023. A memorial service will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

  Jim was born the son of Lawrence B. and Florence A. (Masteller) Kerr on December 26, 1946 in Sioux City, Iowa. He grew up on the West side of Sioux City with his parents and older brother, Larry. Jim graduated from Central High School in 1965. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1968 with a degree in engineering. Jim married Lola Steeg on March 9, 1968. They lived in North Sioux until they built their dream home on the West side, near Jim’s parents.

  Jim worked for Prince Manufacturing, Concrete Pipe Machinery Co., Iowa Beef, and Sioux City Foundry before retiring in 2011.

  He enjoyed his kids and grandkids and traveling to Lincoln and Denver to visit family. He also enjoyed researching ancestry and playing and writing music on the electric guitar. He played in a local band, The Midnight Sun, in the 60s and 70s.

  Jim is survived by his wife, Lola Kerr of Sioux City; children, Angie Kerr of Sioux City and her daughter, Chloe and Craig (Natalie) Kerr of Lincoln and their daughter, Katelynn; sister-in-law, Carol Kerr; and nieces and nephews.

  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Larry; and granddaughter, Emma.
