James L. “Jim” Johnson, 82, of Sioux City passed away on Monday, August 19, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his family. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service.
Jim was born on July 30, 1942 in Sioux City, to Rosco and Eleanor (Tolmie) Johnson. He attended Sioux City schools, and remained a Sioux City resident throughout his life. On February 25, 1961 he married Alice Watkins in Sioux City. To this union, two children were born: Jerry and Jodi.
Jim worked in several industries in the Siouxland area, beginning with Gerkin Windows where he worked for 32 years and worked his way up the ladder into management. From there, he worked as a manager for Anjene Companies, where he worked closely with Gateway. He finished his career in management for Gateway Computers, where he worked until his retirement.
He was involved with the Abu Bekr Shriners for several years, specifically on the Wrecking Crew. It was a membership Jim enjoyed deeply alongside his brother, Bob. He remained a member until Bob’s passing.
Jim loved motorcycles, and it was a hobby and love he shared with his entire family. He and Alice traveled often to Timber Ridge together. He was a loyal and loving friend, a protector to those his loved, and loved his family fiercely.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Johnson; his children: Jerry Johnson (Felicia), and Jodi Barnes (Brian); and many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two close friends who were more like brothers, Boyce Perkins and Chuck Swan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Robert “Bob” Johnson and William “Bill” Johnson; sister, Karen Vermilyea; and an infant sister, Rose Johnson.
