James "Jim" Dare Saxon, 75, of Ponca, NE passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Elms Health Care Center in Ponca from complications of a stroke he suffered in 1999.Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca, NE with Rev. Peter Speiser officiating. Burial will be in the Ponca City Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Ponca American Legion Post #117. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., with the family present at 6:00 P.M. on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca. Jim was born in the Silvercreek area of rural Ponca on March 23, 1939 to Rachel (Dare) and Merle Saxon. He attended rural elementary school and then Ponca Public School, graduating in 1957. Following high school, Jim proudly served his country as a Paratrooper 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S. Army, stationed in Fort Bragg, NC.Jim married Margaret Havranek on September 2, 1962 at Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca. Margaret and Jim made their home in Ponca, welcoming three children, Lina, Robin and Scott.Professionally, Jim was a talented and dedicated dental technician, working at Prodentco in Sioux City early in his career. The family moved to Mitchell, SD in the 1970s where Jim was head of the crown and bridge department at Bauer Dental Studio. They moved back to Ponca in 1977 when Jim opened his own dental lab serving dentists in Nebraska, Iowa and other states.Jim had many community interests and hobbies. He served on the Ponca School Board, the Salem Lutheran Church Council, Ponca Medical Board, Dixota Wranglers and the Ponca Rodeo Association. Jim had a beautiful tenor voice and music was always a part of his life. He sang at weddings and other events and started the "Undivided" quartet. He loved the Huskers, horses, hunting, boating and the outdoors.Survivors include his wife, Margaret of Ponca, NE; children, Dr. Lina (Brett) Bostwick of Lincoln, NE, Robin (Scott) Ehredt of Johnston, IA and Scott (Jann) Saxon of Dell Rapids, SD; grandchildren, Bryce Bostwick and fiancee Stacey Herbel and Morgan Bostwick, Gabe and Ian Ehredt, Alec and Aaron Saxon; sisters, Betty (James) White Whitworth of Sedgwick, KS, Joanne Lowe of O'Neill, NE, Jan (Bill) Thompson of Stromsburg, NE; his brother, Robert Saxon of Centennial, CO; and a special sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Dave Harder of Ponca, NE.Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Rachel and Merle Saxon; and brothers-in-law, Boyd White and Robert Lowe.Jim's family thanks the staff of Elms Health Care Center and his many friends and family members who have always made Jim a part of their lives.
