James “Jim” Kenneth Adkins was born on October 31, 1947, in Portula California to Chester Kenneth Adkins and Margaret Rose (Otto). Jim passed away April 16, 2026 leaving behind a life that was full in its own way and a family that will carry his memory forward. Per his wishes, cremation will take place and no services will be held.
Jim was the oldest of three children. He graduated from Morris High School in 1965. Jim worked for Burlington Northern Railroad from 1974 until his retirement in 2008. Jim then worked at the Carom House Pool Hall until he his health forced his retirement in 2025. Jim believed in putting in a hard day’s work and took pride in being able to provide for himself and his family.
On September 19, 1986, Jim married Kathy Heilman. They shared many years together and built a life that included both family and everyday moments.
Jim enjoyed playing pool and working with his hands, especially woodworking. He could often be found in the garage focused on a project of some sort. He had a strong will and liked to do things his own way, living life on his own terms.
Jim is survived by his wife, Kathy Adkins; his children, Michelle “Mick” (Mark) Ekren, Jamie “Jamer” (Brad) Cardwell, Jeff (Lisa) Adkins, Leon Carson (Susie Pinney), Deb (Gene) Logsdon, Rick (Mara) Scott, and Barb (JR) Johnson. His siblings; his sister Connie (Rod) Williams, and his brother Dennis Adkins. His brothers-and sisters-in-law, Larry (Sue) Heilman, Karlene Heilman, Margaret Heilman, and Shirley Bahr; 15 grandchildren; over 35 great-grandchildren; the mother of Mick, Jamie and Jeff, Rosey Ehrp; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Margaret Adkins; his sister-in-law, Rita Adkins; his granddaughter, Natasha “Tasha” (Adkins) Fester; and his brothers-in-law, Leo, Andy, and Dennis Heilman.
Jim’s life touched many in different ways, and he will be remembered by those who knew him.
