James D. "Jim" Schrunk

October 12, 1943 — April 5, 2019

   James D. “Jim” Schrunk, 75, of Sioux City passed away on Friday, April 5, 2019, at Sanford Senior Care Center in Sheldon, IA.

   Private family services were held at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City.  Burial with military honors followed at Calvary Cemetery in Sioux City.

   James Duane, the son of Wilmer and Virginia (Hansen) Schrunk, was born October 12, 1943, in Anthon, IA. 

   On November 8, 1961, Jim enlisted in the United States Army and served two years in Germany until his honorable discharge on November 13, 1964.  On December 15, 1962, Jim was united in marriage to Mary L. Davis at Immaculate Conception in Sioux City.  This union was blessed with five children.  Jim attended three years meat cutting school which led to a 35 year career as a meat cutter and meat department manager in various grocery stores in Sioux City and the surrounding area.

   Jim was a member of the UFCW International Union.  He enjoyed boating, camping, motorcycle riding, mechanical work, writing, welding, fishing, hunting and walking his dog, Gabbie.  During retirement, he enjoyed woodworking. 

   Jim is survived by his wife, Mary Schrunk; four children: Garry (Eva) Schrunk, Corrina (Richard) Onderlinde, Elizabeth Schrunk and Ben (Jackie) Schrunk; grandchildren: Alexius, Tiffany (Collin), Bobby (Heidi), James, Garrett (Molly) and Timothy N.; five great grandchildren; one sister, Judy Lillie; one brother, John (Janet) Schrunk; one sister-in-law, Pat Schrunk and numerous nieces and nephews.

   Jim was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Timothy T. Schrunk; one grandchild and three brothers: Ron, Garry and Rick.

   Memorial contributions may be directed to Trinity Heights in Sioux City.
