James M. (Jim) Beacom, 90, of Hubbard, NE passed away on August 1, 2025, at home surrounded by his family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, August 9, 2025, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hubbard. Visitation with the family will be Friday, August 8, 2025, from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. with a Rosary Service at 7:00 P.M. all at the Church. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Hubbard. Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City.
Jim was born October 19, 1934, at home on the family farm near Waterbury, NE. Jim was the 4th of 15 children, born to Ambrose and Nellie (Broderick) Beacom. He attended Way School Pigeon Creek 19 and graduated from Waterbury High School in 1953.
Jim married Mary Ann Demke on December 28, 1954 in Waterbury, NE. To this union five children were born.
In 1957, Jim began working for the C.B. & Q Railroad, later to become the Burlington-Northern Railroad. During his time with the railroad he held many positions, last one being Roadmaster of the Nebraska Division. After 35 years railroading, Jim retired in 1989.
Jim enjoyed all sports, especially football. He was an avid Notre Dame fan, and anything Irish. In his later years he was an active follower of his grandchildren and great grandchildren in school and sport activities. He also enjoyed working in his yard, gardening, puzzles (anything railroad related) and word searches. Through all of this Jim always stressed the importance of family, faith and hard work.
Jim is survived by wife; Mary Ann, daughters; Mary Helen Beacom of Sioux City, IA, Cathy Beacom of Hubbard, NE, and Donna (Clayton) Hansen of Hubbard, NE, sons; Pat (Jaci) Beacom of Emerson, NE and Mike (Liz) Beacom of Omaha, NE, eight grandchildren; Tricia (Kevin) Belt, Traci Millard, Ryan Beacom, Andy (Kelsey) Beacom, Justin (Lindsay) Hansen, Eric (Megan) Hansen, Morgan (special friend Derek Roth) Hansen and Katlyn (Shelby) Jacobsen, 19 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, brothers; Pat (Janet) Beacom of Osmond, NE, and Terry (Marlene) Beacom of Lyons, NE, sisters; Mary Jane Mello of Omaha, NE, Alana (Vince) Kuhn of Le Mars, IA, Arlene Whipple of Omaha, NE, Jean Bourgeois of Omaha, NE and Corrine (Dennis) Hogan of Jackson, NE, and brother-in-law, Bill Demke of Wayne, NE.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ambrose and Nellie Beacom, grandson Jeff Beacom, brothers; Darrell (Maggie), Neal and Tim (Mert) Beacom, sisters; Carol Ann, Dorothy and Peggy Beacom and Judy (Frank) Rager, father and mother in-law, Bill (Helen) Demke, brother-in laws; Ed Mello, Charles (Bill) Whipple, William (Bill) Bourgeois, Willie Demke and Peggy Demke, Walt (Eileen) Demke, and sister-in-law, Norma (Charlie) Eriksen and cherished nieces, nephews and a great nephew.
