James E. Batcheller, 81 of Sioux City passed away Monday, September 23, 2024. A memorial service will be 3:30 P.M. on Friday, May 2, 2025 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with family present at 3:00 P.M.
Jim was born November 4, 1942 and not expected to live a year but lived for that and more. He was the son of Harry and Rennie Batcheller of Sioux City. He grew up in Sioux City and was educated in the Sioux City schools but learned a whole lot more when he decided to become a Mason and from the men who were also members of the fraternity.
He had heart for NASCAR and country music but also loved a good party.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Masonic Order.
He worked for the family business for thirty years at Harry Batcheller’s Farm Store. Because of this, he had the opportunity to volunteer over the years for the River Cade as well as for the Abu Bekr Temple. After the door closed on this part of his life, he entered retirement. Another door would open as he volunteered at St. Luke’s Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to Sunrise Retirement Community or Shriners Children’s Hospitals.
Jim is survived by his brothers, Charles W. and his wife Marjorie of Dunwoody, GA and Douglas K of Sioux City, IA; four nieces and nephews, Marjorie (Kelly), Charles A (Andy), Adam Douglas, and Amanda Lee; and several great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, Harlan.
