Jacob “Jake” Emil Wingert, age 70, of Sioux City, passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. He was a devoted brother, a proud uncle, and a loyal friend whose presence will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.
Born on September 27, 1955, Jake grew up in a busy family, one of nine children. He lived his life serving our Lord, the Father Almighty. Jake was a life-long member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Jake fulfilled his earthly life and now will live an eternal, everlasting life in Heaven.
Jake had a passion for sports that lasted his entire life. Whether he was watching his beloved Iowa Hawkeyes or Kansas City Chiefs, cheering loudly for his brothers, nieces, or nephews during their games, or just following a local high school or college game, his enthusiasm was contagious. Sports weren’t just entertainment for him—they were a source of joy, connection, and countless memories shared with the people he loved most.
Jake worked at FIMCO Industries for most of his life, dedicating himself to hard, honest work. He took pride in his craft and in the friendships he built over the years with his coworkers. Even after becoming disabled, his spirit remained strong. He never lost his sense of humor, his resilience, or his ability to find light in the toughest situation.
Above all else, he cherished his family. He was a caring brother who could always be counted on, and an uncle who brought laughter, encouragement, and love into the lives of his nieces and nephews. His stories, his kindness, and his unwavering support will be remembered forever.
He is survived by his siblings, Raymond Wingert, Richard (Cindy) Wingert, Debbie (Ralph) Modlin, Darrell (Brenda) Wingert, Ernie (Cathy) Wingert, Kevin Wingert and sister-in-law Sherry Wingert. Additionally, he had many extended family members and friends who loved him dearly. He is preceded in death by his father, Jacob and mother LaVonne (Custer) Wingert, sister Janice Anderson, brother Vernon Wingert, and sister-in-law Sharen Wingert.
