Jackie “Jack” L. Nicolls, 87 of Sioux City passed away Sunday, June 22, 2025. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, June 26, 2025, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
Jack was born on March 27, 1938, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Harold and Ardith (Thompson) Nicolls. He attended Sioux City schools as well as a country school in Nebraska. On October 20, 1962, Jack married Mary Guntren, and together they raised three daughters.
Jack spent his career in outdoor advertising, working for S.S. Coe. Company and later Kern, before retiring. In retirement, he became affectionately known as the “mower man” for his knack of fixing countless lawnmowers on the West Side.
He enjoyed daily visits to Burger King, where he and his coffee buddies would “solve the world’s problems.” Jack also loved watching old Westerns, The Price Is Right, and even WWE Wrestling.
He is survived by his daughters: Tammy (Dan) Limoges, Tina (Bryan) Janssen, and Victoria (Pat Ritz) Nicolls; his grandchildren: Tom (Crista) Limoges, Andrew DeVries, and Alec (Mary) DeVries; and great-grandchildren: Brooklyn and Logan Limoges. He is also survived by his brothers: Wayne (Patty) Nicolls, Tom Nicolls and Larry Nicolls; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Evelyn, Arlene, Louise, and Sandy; and brother, Roger.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the many individuals who cared for Jack with such compassion: Tasha James; Michelle at St. Luke’s; the St. Croix Hospice nurses- Angel, Carrie, Kasey, Stacy, and Adam; Father Mike Keating; and the staff at Continental Springs Nursing Home.
