Jack E. Vitito

June 29, 1935 — July 31, 2023

 

Jack E. Vitito, 88, of Sloan, IA, formerly of South Sioux City, NE, passed away July 31, 2023. Visitation will be Thursday, August 3rd from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held Friday, August 4th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael Cemetery. Jack was born on June 29, 1935 in Sioux City, IA. His parents are Ralph and Helen (Long) Vitito.  He attended South Sioux City High School and then went on to work at JCPenney. He then moved to Littleton, CO and joined the police department.  Upon returning to the Sioux City metro area, he gained employment working at JCPenney in the marketing department. While working at JCPenney, he became a manager and transferred with the business to Mankato, MN and then to Fort Dodge, IA. In 1972, he opened Jack's Uniforms and Equipment in South Sioux City, NE. 

Jack loved the outdoors, especially his time with family and friends on his hunting property called “Triple D” acres named after his three boys. He carried the love of outdoors into his artwork.  He painted and carved wildlife, creating many beautiful pieces. His ruddy duck carving won 3rd place in The World Championship Carving Competition in Ocean City, Maryland. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, photography, and riding horses. He was a charter member of Northeast Nebraska Sportsman's Association, Pheasants Forever, Wildlife Turkey Association, and was involved with the South Sioux City Police Reserve.

Those left to honor his memory include his sons: Dale (Terrie) Vitito, South Sioux City, NE, Douglas (Judia) Vitito, Jackson, NE, Donald (LeAnne) Vitito, Omaha, NE; grandchildren: Tanner, Michael, Sara and Ryan; great-grandchildren: Paislley, Axell, Valley, and Logan; siblings: Betty (Gene) Ohm, Sioux City, IA, Gary (Sandy) Vitito, Arnolds Park, IA, and Carolyn (Dan) Viers, South Sioux City, NE.

He is preceded in death by his parents.
