Irwin Dean Hacker, age 76, of Minden, NE passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2023.
There will be a prayer service at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, April 6, 2023 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, 3220 Stone Park Blvd, Sioux City, IA. Deacon Dennis Brockhaus will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com
Dean was born on April 9, 1946. He was adopted by Francis "Richard" Hacker and Irene (Stauffer) Hacker. Dean and family lived in California, Virginia, and Nebraska. Dean would reminisce about driving a tractor in the tobacco fields as a kid in Virginia. Dean and his mom raised chickens while living in California. He talked about their fruit trees.
After Richards passing Irene and family moved to Minden. Dean was a member of St John’s Catholic Church. He served as an altar boy and more recently completed classes to be an acolyte. Dean loved music. Dean would always have a record playing. He loved attending performances at the Minden Opera House, especially his favorite Elvis. Dean loved living in the Christmas City and decorating his house with many lights and his nativity. Dean lived for seeing "The Light of the World" Christmas pageant every year proclaiming his favorite parts were when the soldiers said "Hail Caesar" and when the lights turned on. Dean loved going to the casinos. Dean and Irene would take bus trips to casinos. He loved playing slot machines.
Dean worked mostly doing yard work. He was an avid Minden Whippet supporter, attending music and sport events.
Dean was helped by many in Minden. The people of Minden helped him in numerous ways.
Dean is survived by Mary D (Sam) Hacker, Margie (John) Fitch, Charlie (Mary E) Hacker, Rene (Robert) Hacker, Gary (Jan) Hacker, Larry (Mo) Hacker, Jackie Hacker Graham, Michelle and Jim Edgecombe, Grant and Ben
He is preceded in death by his parents Richard and Irene Hacker, grandparents Anthony and Catherine Hacker
If so, inclined Dean would have liked memorials to the Minden Opera House.
