Irene Gertrude Prince, 94, a cherished soul who graced this world with her warmth and laughter, peacefully departed from us on Monday, July 8, 2024, at the Heritage at Northern Hills surrounded by her loving family.
Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, July 15, 2024, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation with the family will be Sunday, July 14, 2024, from 4:00 - 6:00 P.M. with a Vigil Service at 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Irene was born on March 30, 1930, in Elk Point, South Dakota, to her dear parents Frank and Lillie (Feauto) Hoffman. The family relocated to Sioux City in 1944, and Irene attended Central High School. She married John William "Bill" Montagne on November 27, 1946, and to this union, four children were born. Bill passed away in 1967. Irene met and married Paul Prince on August 28, 1972, in Sioux City. He preceded her in death on August 11, 2009.
From working clerical positions at the First National Bank and several Department Stores to serving as a hostess and server at the Sioux City Convention Center, Irene's dedication and hard work were evident to all who knew her. Her passion for these roles led her to retire at the remarkable age of 75. With a personality that could light up any room, Irene was known for always wearing a smile and possessing a quick wit that never failed to brighten people's days. Her fun-loving nature and ability to make others laugh endeared her to everyone she met.
In her leisure time, Irene found joy in a multitude of hobbies and interests. Whether it was teeing off on the golf course at with the Sun Valley Golf Club, bowling strikes or engaging in friendly competition with the WIBC Bowling Club for an impressive 35 years, she lived life with a vibrant spirit. A member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Irene also delighted in tending to her yard and flowers, showcasing her culinary skills while hosting family gatherings, and even kicking up her heels while line dancing at the Siouxland Center for Active Generations.
Irene's legacy extends beyond herself through the lives she touched and the memories she created with those around her. In her passing, she leaves behind a wealth of cherished relationships. She is survived by her loving children: Tim Montagne of La Pointe, WI; Cyndi Unger (Bob) of Sioux City; John Montagne (Deb) of Charles City, IA; and Mary Uber (Scott) of Sioux City. Her memory will be forever treasured by her grandchildren: Kelly Johnson (Karyn), Kerri Gibson (Kipp), Nicolle Mace, Tracy Weathers (Jason), Kristy Uber (fiancé Jim LaHart), John Montagne (Rachel), Stacey Vance (Scott), Alex Montagne (Riley), Dylan Montagne, Zach Montagne (Michela), Melody Montagne, and Alicia Montagne; along with 26 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her immediate family, Irene is also survived by special niece Marlene Honomichl and a beloved cat named Lady Bug.
She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Lillie Hoffman, husband Bill Montagne, husband Paul Prince, and several siblings.
