Idella Adeline Basart, 96, of Sioux City, formerly of Flandreau, South Dakota, passed away on Monday, November 2, 2026, at the Akron Care Center in Akron, Iowa, surrounded by her loving family.
Cremation rites will be accorded, and private family interment will be held at a later date. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
Idella, the daughter of Vern P. and Gladys D. (Olson) Jester, was born January 5, 1930, in Preston, Minnesota. She grew up in Preston, where she attended and graduated from high school. She was united in marriage to DeWayne Arthur Basart, and together they were blessed with four children. The couple made their home in Flandreau, South Dakota, for most of their married life.
Idella devoted much of her professional career to public relations with Sioux Valley Electric Company. Outside of work, she enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including cross-stitching, working puzzles, and playing cards. She and DeWayne shared a love of the outdoors, spending time fishing and hunting together. They also enjoyed escaping the cold South Dakota winters by spending several years wintering in Texas.
Idella took great pride in her service to others. She served as Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star and also served as President of the South Dakota VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Above all, her greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she cherished dearly.
Those left to honor her memory include her four children: Diane (Bill) Irby of Vacaville, California; Renae (Richard) Forque of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Annette (Wayne) Frazier of Lexington, Kentucky; and Dave (Jodi) Basart of Akron, Iowa; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, DeWayne; and three brothers, Delmer, Merlin, and Jerry Jester.
