Helen G. Siganos

Helen Siganos, 91, of Sioux City passed away Monday, October 23, 2023 at Sanford Care Center, Vermillion South Dakota.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 30th at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church with Father Sava Leida officiating. A private burial for the family will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Visitation with the family present will be 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, October 29th with a Trisagion service at 5:00 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Helen was born on January 5th, 1932, the daughter of Gus and Stella Camaras. She grew up in Grand Island, NE, continuing her education at Kearney State Teachers college. Helen taught 3rd grade in Kansas City before meeting the love of her life, Spero Siganos at a Greek convention in 1957. They married later that year on September 15. They settled down in Sioux City, raising two sons Steve and Stan, and one daughter, Kaye. Helen and Spero were married for 59 years before Spero passed in 2016.

Helen was a bright light, who loved to play bridge and lunch with friends. She loved to shop and was a regular at Younkers dept store. One year her birthday cake was the shape of a younker’s credit card. Helen worked at Four Seasons health club for many years and was known as the fun little Greek lady at the front desk. Helen was a member of the Greek Church for over 60 years and loved her Greek community of friends.

Survivors include three children and their spouses, Steve and Melanie Siganos of Minneapolis, MN, Stan and Jan Siganos of Sioux Falls, SD, and Kaye (Siganos) and Rick Rudeen of Dakota Dunes, SD; Six grandchildren, Kendy (Steve) Walker and Greg Siganos, Sam and Jenna Siganos, Alexa McMillen (Katie), Danny Rudeen (Kenzie); four great-grandchildren, Mia and Ashton Walker, Lou and Stella Rudeen; and many nieces and nephews.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Spero, her Sisters Tulla (brother-in-law Jim) and Sophie, and a brother Tykye.
