Helen Rose Carson, 98, of, Sioux City, IA, passed away March 19, 2023 at Westwood Specialty Care. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, August 21, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Helen was born on March 22, 1924, in Sioux City, the daughter of Peter and Helen (Bender) Johnson. She graduated from East High School with honors. On August 21, 1942, Helen was united in marriage to Karroll M. Carson at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Karroll preceded her in death on March 1, 2020, they shared 77 years together.
Her first job was working in the office at Swifts Packing Plant. With the outbreak of World War II, she went to work as a civilian, typing military orders for the United States Army Air Corp, at the Sioux City Air Base. After the war, she obtained her insurance license to help Karroll with his business, working from home and enjoyed the role of homemaker and mom to three young sons. (Larry, Jim and Chuck). After her children graduated from high school, she proudly worked as a deputy clerk of District Court for Woodbury County, Iowa until her retirement.
Helen greatest joy in life was her family and she love to spend time with all of them. The family traveled every summer when the kids were young, trying to see as much of the United States as humanly possible, usually camping. During her family gatherings and holiday celebrations she would share many of her crocheting projects she had completed for that year. Helen and Karroll, enjoyed ballroom dancing, square dancing, and round dancing throughout their married life. During their early years of retirement, they traveled across the country dancing and visiting many resorts, wintering in Arizona. Helen spent her spare time working crossword puzzles and crocheting.
Those left to honor her memory are her two sons, James (Deb) Carson of Sioux City and Charles (Linda) Carson of Dakota City; a sister-in law Alberta Richmann, of Onawa, many grandchildren, great - grandchildren, great - great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband Karroll, son Larry and a brother Leon M. Johnson.
