Harry A. Tomek

   Harry A. Tomek, 90, of Dakota City passed away on Monday, February 12, 2024 at a local care facility. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-6:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at Mohr & Becker Hunt Funeral Home. A Rosary and Vigil Service will begin at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 19, 2024 at St. Michael Cemetery in South Sioux City.    Harry was born on July 24, 1933 in St. Louis, Missouri, to Harry and Delia (Hulsey) Tomek. Following high school, he drove truck delivering oil for South Gates Oil Company in Midway, Washington, for a time during which he met Hazel Jesper. The two were wed on August 11, 1953 in Des Moines, Washington. Hazel preceded Harry in death in September of 2016.

   Upon returning to the Siouxland area, Harry obtained a degree in Heating and Air Conditioning Repair from WITCC in Sioux City. He went on to work in various industries, including Armor and Swift and Royal packing houses, was a union representative for UFCW, and was a custodian for WITCC and St. Michael’s Parish for several years until his retirement.

   Survivors include his children: Jim Tomek, Harry Tomek (Michelle Metzler), and Roxie Tomek; and a sister, Bernice Henderson.

   He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Tomek; his parents; and a sister, Delia Peterson.
