Gregory W. Hansen's Obituary

Gregory W. Hansen, a devoted family man and skilled craftsman, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2026, in Rural Jackson, Nebraska, following a brief illness with his beloved wife Lia, and his daughter Claudia, by his side. Born on April 11, 1950, in Sioux City, Iowa, Greg lived a life marked by quiet strength, dedication, and a gentle spirit. A Celebration of Life Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at the Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City, Nebraska with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday morning. Fellowship and a luncheon will follow the service at the reception hall at Mohr & Becker Hunt.

Greg’s journey was one of steady accomplishments and heartfelt connection. Beginning his professional career in 1971 as Lead Engineer at Raskin Company, he went on to work as a maintenance worker at Armor Packing Company from 1976 until 1979. From 1980 until 1989, Greg was involved with the GG Grieve Company Car Lot but his longest tenure was at Mercy Medical Center, where he served diligently from 1979 until his retirement in 2013 as Maintenance Supervisor. Throughout these years, Greg was known for his talent and unwavering commitment to his work—always one to find satisfaction in working with his hands, whether it was leading a team or tackling mechanical challenges himself.

Beyond his professional life, Greg’s passions were deeply rooted in the simple, joyful moments shared with those he loved. He cherished fishing trips with Lia, especially at the Red River, a place he preferred humorously because, as he would say, "there were no fish in the Missouri River." His love for animals and knack for creativity shone through in the perfect names he chose for his dogs—Rocky, Chubs, and Spastic—each a reflection of his subtle humor and gentle heart. Though these faithful companions have passed before him, their memory lives on among the family he deeply loved.

Greg’s hobbies were a testament to his hands-on nature and zest for life. Whether he was tending to his treasured tomato plants, working on engines and mowers, enjoying backyard gatherings filled with laughter and warmth, or exploring new destinations on vacations with Lia, his presence brought a calm and steady joy to his family and friends. He was the quiet anchor around whom many joyful memories were built.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lia Hansen; cherished children Claudia (James) Hanna and Karie Hansen; grandchildren Keean Hanna and Kayla (Julian) Hansen; and great-grandchild Adalyn Hansen, who all held his heart dearly. His brother Danny (Jacki) Hansen and sister Caroline Dunn remain a part of his extended family embrace, as does his daughter-in-law Suzanne Hansen. Together, they carry forward his legacy of love and resilience.

Greg was preceded in death by his son, Greg W. Hansen; sister Sharon Jensen; brother-in-law Paul Dunn; and his beloved dogs. Though they are gone, the impact of these relationships and the love they shared continues to echo through the lives left behind.

Gregory W. Hansen leaves behind a legacy of quiet strength, earnest craftsmanship, and tender, lifelong devotion to those he loved. His gentle spirit and steadfast hands will be remembered fondly and missed deeply by all who had the privilege to know him. In reflecting on his journey, we are reminded of a life well-lived—not in grand gestures, but in the small, meaningful moments that truly shape the heart.
