Gregory Walter England, a beloved member of the Sioux City community, passed away on March 1, 2026, after courageously battling cancer. He was born on August 10, 1965, in Sioux City, Iowa, to William Russell England and Janice Marie Felkey, both of whom preceded him in death. A Remembrance Service with Military Honors by the United States Air Force Reserve will be on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 5pm at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Visitation, with family present, will be on Thursday, March 5th from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. prior to the Remembrance Service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Fisher House, Inc. (www.fisherhouse.org) or Sioux City Food Bank.
Gregory lived a life steeped in love for his family, friends, and community. Known for his generous spirit, he became a respected and cherished local business owner over the last 30 years, primarily recognized for his culinary prowess as the owner of Court Street Tap. His extensive culinary career allowed him to touch the lives of many, serving delicious meals and creating joyous memories for his patrons. His passion for cooking was not just a profession but a testament to his love for people, as he took pleasure in sharing food and laughter with those around him.
A proud graduate of North High School in Sioux City, he furthered his education at the University of South Dakota, where he studied business. In addition to his academic achievements, Gregory answered the call to serve his country in the United States Air Force during Desert Storm and continued to serve in the National Guard with the 185th in Sioux City, Iowa. His military service underscored his commitment to his country and community.
Gregory leaves behind his loving wife, Kimberly Leaverton, and their children: Gregory (Denise) Gutierrez, Nicholas (Amy) Gutierrez, Stephanie (Aaron) Smith, and Brandon (Ellie) Johnson. He was the proud grandfather of four grandchildren: Magdalena, Jane, Josie, and Malcolm, whom he adored and cherished as the greatest treasure of his life. He also had a special bond with his dog, Samantha, who was a constant companion beside him.
In addition to his immediate family, Gregory is survived by his brother, William England, and sister, Joan (Lee) Hanna. His legacy will also be honored by his two nephews, Eli and Nate, along with many in-laws—five sisters and three brothers—and several nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart. Greg’s parents, mother-in-law Donna Johnson, and his son Travis Gutierrez preceded him in death.
Gregory’s zest for life was evident through his varied interests and hobbies. He enjoyed fishing, camping, golfing, and playing sports, and he was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears, St. Louis Cardinals, and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He treasured the memories created with family and friends, relishing the time spent together, full of laughter and love. His infectious humor and goofball personality brought joy to all who knew him.
As we remember Gregory Walter England, we celebrate the remarkable impact he made during his life, not just through his culinary talents but through the warmth he shared with everyone he encountered. He will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and the community he served with unwavering dedication and love.
