Gregory J. Cabana, Sr.

Gregory J. Cabana, Sr., 78, of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, August 1, 2021.  A memorial mass will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, August 6, 2021 at Cathedral of the Epiphany Parish St. Boniface.  Visitation will be Thursday, August 5, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.  

Greg was born the son of Ray and Louise (O’Dea) Cabana on June 25, 1943 in Sioux City, Iowa.  He graduated from Bishop Heelan High School in 1961.  He married Angela Campbell.  To this union his only son, Greg, Jr. was born.  He later married Aris Efting.

Greg sold cars for many years.  First for Salsness Buick, then Hoak Motors, and finally Billion Auto.  He was well known in the car business for going above and beyond for his customers, many of which he formed good friendships with.

Greg loved to ride motorcycles and spent hours shining his Harley Davidson.  He enjoyed bicycling, weight lifting at Four Seasons, and walking the Riverfront. 

Greg was proud to be an original founder and board member of Awesome Biker Nights.  This charity event raised over a million dollars for several charities in the Siouxland area.  He worked tirelessly on this event for over 20 years.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Carmelite Nuns of Sioux City.

Greg is survived by his son, Greg (Jurga) Cabana, Jr. of Washington, D.C.; sisters, Pam LaScala and Nancy (Mick) Irwin both of Sioux City; the love of his life, Aris of Sioux City; best friend, Cindy O’Neill; and grandchildren, Luke and Matas Campbell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dick Cabana; and nephew, Mark Hoefling.
