Grace M. Hawkins

Grace M. Hawkins, 95, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, November 20, 2022 in Sioux City.

Memorial Services will be held at 9:00 A.M. Grace was born December 26, 1926 in Ashton, Iowa, the daughter of Ferdinand and Helen (Poss) Osterholt.  Grace and her family moved to Sioux City when she was a teenager and she has been a resident for over 80 years.  Grace married Arthur W. Hawkins on June 30, 1949 in Elk Point, SD.

In addition to her home in Sioux City, she and her husband, Art, were home owners at Big Stone Lake in South Dakota.  A weekend at the lake with family and friends was one of the joys of life for them.  In addition to being a loving wife, mother, and homemaker, Grace taught at New Hope Center in Sioux City for 20 years.  New Hope was a private school for children and young adults with disabilities. 

Following her retirement from New Hope, Grace devoted her time and energy to being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She enjoyed attending dances in Sioux City and South Sioux City.

Grace is survived by her son David and wife Gloria Hawkins of South Sioux City, NE, and two daughters:  Helen Foix of Mesa, AZ and Donna Thiele of Sioux City, IA; 10 grandchildren:  Heather, Beth, Toi, Todd, Chuck, Jenny, Sarah, Jason, Cory, and Seth; 26 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; a brother Howard “Whitey” and his wife Betty Osterholt; and a special friend Bob Irwin. 

Grace was preceded in death by her parents Ferdinand and Helen, husband Art, her son George, daughter-in-law Yachiyo, son-in-law Terry, brothers Stan, Roger, Edward, Alan, and Glen, and sisters Joyce and Barb.
