Grace Barbara Dickerson

Grace Barbara Dickerson, 79 of South Sioux City, Nebraska passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at a local nursing facility.  A Memorial Service will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2024 at the Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City with Chaplain Janell Norton officiating.   Burial will be at a later date at the Newcastle City Cemetery.  Visitation, with the family present, will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Friday.  Online condolences may be offered at www.meyerbroschapels.com

Grace was born on September 25, 1944 in Los Angeles, California to Donald and Alice (Mommer) Gilbert.  After graduation from Elsinore High School in California, she went on to obtain her Associate of Arts Degree at Riverside City College, graduating in June of 1979.   She married James Allen Dickerson on September 21, 1968 in Riverside, California.  That marriage ended in a divorce.  

Grace relocated to Newcastle, Nebraska after meeting Virgil Hinz while he was on a trip to California.   She worked alongside Virgil, and enjoyed a common-law marriage with him until his passing in September of 2008.  Grace ended her working career at Menards in Sioux City, Iowa.  

Grace was a proud member of the Newcastle Community Club, the American Legion Auxiliary Unity 62 of Newcastle from 2016 until the time of her passing.  She was an avid reader, loved to cross-stitch, enjoyed baking, playing cards, and collecting dishes.

Left to cherish her memories are son Carl (Jacque) Petersen of Fremont, Nebraska; son David Dickerson of Sioux City, Iowa; granddaughter Harley (Fish) Kraai of Sioux City, Iowa; grandson Rhett Dickerson of Dakota City, Nebraska; grandson Bram (Raisa) Perez of Nicols, Iowa; grandson Kory Kennedy of Sioux City, Iowa; granddaughter Alexandria Dickerson of Arizona; Samantha Burke of Sioux City, Iowa; and two great-grandchildren October Monson and Arlo Perez.

Grace was preceded in death by her parents, common-law husband Virgil, and son Lance Gilbert.
